It may be difficult for you to get out and go to the gym or you may find following an exercise routine every morning or evening undesirable. You can easily incorporate exercising into almost everything you do at home and at work. You can walk instead of driving, take the stairs rather than the elevator or go for a walk at lunchtime. You can do some gardening or clean out those closets. Maybe you have a room that can stand to be repainted.
  1. People who are obese tend to sit for longer periods of time than those who are leaner. You can gain health benefits by simply standing more often.

  2. If you are a dog owner you can thank your dog for looking out for your health. His need to be walked daily is an exercise you can't put off. You will also find yourself socializing with other dog owners.

  3. If you take public transportation to work or school try exiting the vehicle one stop early and walking the rest of the way. As the walk becomes faster and easier get off two stops earlier, and add a stop periodically until you have a 20 to 30 minute walk every morning.

  4. Get outdoors for a walk everyday at lunchtime. A brisk, 30 minute walk daily is more effective than rigorous exercising in shorter bursts.

  5. Time yourself when walking. Quicken your pace to walk the same distance in a shorter amount of time, and then increase your distance. Increase your walking time and distance until you are getting 30 to 60 minutes of energetic exercise daily.

  6. Using the stairs regularly when you are in stores, at work or in subways you will find that your racing heart and breathing becomes less ragged as you progress.

  7. You may find people who fidget annoying, but their constant movement, be it toe tapping, going back and forth to the water cooler or pacing is a calorie burning exercise.

  8. Don't drive your car through an automatic car wash machine. Washing it yourself is a great home exercise. You're carrying buckets of water, you're stretching and scrubbing. Concentrate on keeping good posture during the vacuuming.

  9. People watch television for an average of four hours a day watching television. Have an occasional "no TV" day. Use that day to walk, exercise, clean out that spare room, do some gardening or anything that will give you a good vigorous workout.

  10. Hunching forward prevents a full intake of oxygen as you breathe. Take a few minutes to stand in the doorway with both palms and forearms against the door jam. While pushing your chest forward, step one foot through the entry arch without moving your arms. You will feel a stretching in your chest.
