But that does mean that you stop exercising altogether. Once you do, all the benefits, you have accrued by exercising regularly round the year, will go to waste. However, exercising in summer is easier said than done. The heat and humidity can take a toll on your body, even if you are at rest. Add to this, a rigorous workout and the prospect might not seem appealing at all. What should you do then? How about using the following tips to get the best out of exercise during the summer months?
Whether your workout is light or heavy, make it easier for yourself by drinking lots of water. Your body loses more fluids during workouts in summer than in any other season. So you must re-hydrate yourself accordingly. There is no need to down a liter at a time! Just keep sipping water at regular intervals during and after your workout and you can keep dehydration at bay. Sports drinks are okay too, but you should know that they are absorbed slower than water by your body.
Make sure not to wear body hugging clothes while exercising, unless they are made of high-quality sweat absorbent permeable material. Loose-fitting clothes allow the circulation of air between your garments and your skin, thus helping in dissipating the heat to the atmosphere much quicker. Cotton fabrics are the best in case you do not have access to sportswear.
Exercise during the early morning or in the evening when the sun is not too harsh and the temperatures are lower. This is particularly helpful if your workouts are mostly outdoors. If possible exercise indoors, particularly if there is a heat wave outside.
If you want to cut down your exertions to a bare minimum, walk. Walking can be a great exercise when you do not feel motivated to do intricate stuff. Walk at home on your lawn for half an hour everyday to keep in touch with fitness. When the weather changes for the better, you can go back to your usual routine.
Similarly, a change from your usual routine can also give you added incentive to work out in summer. In case your usual fitness training program seems too taxing in summer, try something new. A new exercise or equipment may be just what you need!
Hire a personal trainer. When you want to work out at home, there can be no better way to do it other than hiring a personal trainer. He can teach you effective indoor exercises and fast-track your progress in terms of fitness. If you have always wanted to have a personal trainer, this may be right time to give it a go.
