I sometimes hear from people who are considering the Medifast diet but who are worried about their long term results. Often, these folks have had initial success with diets and with weight loss in the past. But, over time, they gained the weight back and they are worried that this process is going to repeat itself. After all, who wants to put all of the work into complying with a diet if your results are going to be difficult, or impossible, to maintain?
Common concerns are things like: "how difficult is it going to be for me to keep the weight off with Medifast? Is it going to be difficult to maintain? Because I don't want to feel as if I want to be on a diet for the rest of my life." I will address this concern in the following article.
Know That There Are A Couple Of Different Options For Transitioning: This is only my opinion, but I think that Medifast does a really good job of helping you to transition off of the diet very gradually. They have a very comprehensive plan that allows you to add back in regular foods quite gradually while you still make use of a couple of your favorite Medifast meals until you feel comfortable eating a regular diet on a full time basis. This allows you to ease into it until you find the combination of diet and routine that works best for you. They offer a lot of free guidelines and tips to make this process relatively easy.
What It Really Takes To Keep The Weight Off: Many people worry that as soon as they start eating regular food again, the weight is going to start creeping back on. I don't find this to be completely true. But I do believe that you probably can't go back to eating junk food or high processed, high sugar, and high fat foods and expect to flawlessly maintain your new body. In other words, you can't resort back to any previous bad habits without any consequences. Sure, every one indulges once in a while and I think you have to be able to have flexibility with your diet in order to enjoy life. But I believe that those who have long term success with any diet do learn to embrace a healthier life style over the long term.
You can't expect to go back to your old eating habits and get new results. Because it is probable that if you go back to your old habits, you might return to your old body. The good news though is that with your lean and green meal, you've probably learned newer and healthier habits that you are now very comfortable with. In fact, when this happened for me I found that I no longer craved the old foods that I used to love. The cake that used to be my favorite tastes overly sweet to me now. I can enjoy a small slice and then get back to healthy eating without too much of a problem.
And I also find that the exercise which was only a novelty in the beginning has become a habit. It's a wonderful stress reliever and when I get ill or so busy that I can't work out, I definitely notice a big difference in my mood and in my productivity. Frankly, my new lifestyle is not just about the weight. It is about being productive, having peace of mind, and having more control over my own outcome.
But to answer the question posed, I don't believe that it's that difficult to maintain the weight loss as long as you embrace your new life style. But if you attempt to go back to your old way of eating and doing things, you may have a bit of a challenge because your results are going to follow your habits.
