I think that most people can agree that carrots are thought to be a healthy and tasty snack. They've very convenient and easy to eat on the run. And if you buy the baby, pre washed variety, all you really need to do is find a container for them and then be on your way. But some people have expressed concerns as to whether or not you can eat carrots when you're on Nutrisystem. In the following article, I'll address this concern.
In case you don't already know, the extras or grocery additions on this diet are divided into power fuels (which are mostly lean protein;) smart carbs (which are mostly fruits and grains;) vegetables; and extras (which are mostly condiments, dressing, and sauces.) Each category has its own serving sizes, guidelines, and limitations. Some people have told me that they've assumed that since carrots can taste sweet that they are considered a smart carb rather than a vegetable. (Some high glycemic vegetables are considered to be carbohydrates and have serving sizes which are limited for the sake of the diet, since it's not a good idea to eat too many carbohydrates when dieting.) This isn't the case. Carrots are considered to be a vegetable. And, they are one of the items on the unlimited list when they are raw. That means that you aren't limited to only a couple of servings per day and can enjoy them anytime you feel that you need a little something extra to tide you over. Cooking vegetables brings out their sugars which is why you will sometimes notice that you can have about twice as much of a vegetable when it is raw than when it is cooked.
So if carrots are a food that you really enjoy, this is probably good news for you. You can even have one tablespoon of light salad dressing on them as long as you limit the "other" category (which includes the salad dressing) to three servings per day and to items that contain under thirty five calories per serving. It's also important to note that many of the prepackaged Nutrisystem meals include vegetables as part of the meal. So you may well take in some carrots with your prepackaged meals, depending on what you choose that day. I find that people sometimes assume that the only vegetables you get on this diet are those that add in as your grocery sides. This isn't the case because many of the entrées contain vegetables. And, many of the grocery vegetables are also unlimited. So, if you enjoy vegetables like carrots, know that you can enjoy them very liberally on this diet, especially if you are willing to eat them raw.
